Where were you when India won?

with 2 comments

I was in front of the television yelling my lungs out, screaming and shouting, bringing the house down. There were 4 of us dancing at home full chhapri style when Dhoni hit the winning runs – and a very bemused 3 year old wondering what was wrong with the grown-ups. The dholaks and the patakas could already be heard. There was a big screen set up in the park in the colony, but the drizzle and the mosquitoes drove us indoors. We were out on the streets dancing with everyone the moment the six was hit. There were people on the roads in bikes and cars screaming “Indiaaaaa India Indiaaaaa India”. We lit a couple of sau ki ladis (firecrackers) and then celebrated with sparklers. We also gave some to the colony kids to celebrate. We went out for dinner after that to a local hangout joint, and everyone there was congratulating each other.

It was so awesome to see the outpouring and confidence we had in our team on twitter. Watching a match and tweeting simultaneously is akin to watching the match in a virtual stadium. Super fun. It brought the whole country together. The emotions were running high in the semi final against Pakistan for obvious reasons, but in the finals against Sri Lanka, it was completely cricket. The game could have gone either way, but in the end the better team did win, and that team was Indiaaaaa.

2015, 2019, 2023 and even thereafter, your always going to be asked – Where were you when India won the World Cup in 2011?

Split Personality?

with 3 comments

Do I support Kolkata Knight Riders – my maayka?

Or Delhi Darevils – where I now reside?

Or Mumbai Indians – where I spent a significant part of my formative years and have a strong bond with Mumbai & Pune?

Or Deccan Chargers – cuz after all I did start my schooling in Vizag?

So I am confused – which team do I support?

Gawd help me…any suggestions anyone?

BAN 6-DAY WEEKS

leave a comment »

6 pm on a lovely Saturday evening, and here I am still stuck in office doing an analysis of issues for a matter which is on the 28th. I wish the concept of flexi-timing was allowed on Saturdays at least. My social life is A BIG HUGE ZERO since even Saturdays are plain old working days; and the one Sunday we get, we clean house and sleep. Yup the boring married couple that we are. A 6 day work-week should be outlawed. Its inhumane and plain torture.
The worst of sitting in office on a Saturday till 6:30 is that post lunch none of us are really working, we are simply whiling away our time, doing some perfunctory work. The whole point of working is destroyed. Everyone maintains a semblance of work, while actually surfing the net, blogging and chatting – including yours truly.
The hubby also works Saturdays, so for us our Sunday morning sleep-in is sacrosanct. Woe betide my maid if she dares to ring the bell before 8:30 am on a Sunday.

And yeaaaaaaaaaaaah, India won 🙂

We showed those bloody%^&*$#@ Aussies. Bloody ‘mates’ can give it but they just can’t take it. In school, we used to call them BULLIES. That is exactly what they are – plain old bullies, who when they are given a dose of their own medicine ran crying racism to the umpire, who like one of those typical Indian mothers said ‘Mera beta kuch galat nahin kar sakta’ . Helooo, calling someone a monkey is not racist, but a plain and simple insult. Or it is also possible that Sardar Bhajji was actually saying ‘Teri ma ki*&^%$’ and our poor old Symonds being a doodh ka dhula hua bachcha got all offended and ran crying Mommy, Mommy, or in this case Umpire, Umpire.
