#Blogoholics Utd. – I am back

with 2 comments

Yeloooo!!!!

Pardon me for not having posted the past week, health just didn’t permit and of course I was in Cal as well, so if I was on the laptop for too long I was getting the danda from the Mommy to take  a break from work and layoff the laptop.

The past week was awesome! Despite the fact that we were all unwell and didn’t really feel like eating much, just the fact that we were all together was good fun. I met up with a cousin and her husband for the first time. I am the oldest in my paternal side of the family. We cousins have interacted as kids and at various stages of growing up but the age gap was always there, but now that most of us are various stages of our twenties, its good fun. I got to see a different side to them this time. Family does surprise us!!!! And accept us as we are – that’s the best part.

#BlogholicsUtd – Post 3

I’m in Kolkataaaa!!! Home sweet home.

Lots of plans, lots of good food food, lots of adda with friends – some old and some new. An opportunity for the saris to be worn. The dhaakis and the shaaj all over. Seeing Pyramids in the morning and Hogwarts in the evening.  Cal just wears a totally different look at this time of the year. Though we may all be working in different cities, we all make it a point to come home at this time of the year – to be with friends and family, to just be home and celebrate the joy of being together as family, as friends. And that’s how I look at festivals – a time of joy and enjoyment, a break from the regular bhag-daud and a time to catch up. Sometimes, we do need an excuse to force us all to do that.

You guys have a great Pujo  😀

Hitting the Ground Running

with 4 comments

Its been 3 weeks since I started my new job. Its been a huuuuge change for me in more ways than one – some good and well some better 🙂

I hit the ground running from the day I joined. Its been  a whole different ball game for me – the work is the same and yet its different. The setup is entirely different from what I am familiar with. I had to learn terms like ‘vertical’ and ‘super area’ and ‘CAM’ etc. I learnt how to balance the legal angle with the commercial angle. Actually I am still learning. I was on the job from Day 1 – a job where the previous guy before me had quit a while back, pending work, the guy reporting to me down with dengue so it meant my having to figure out  alot of stuff on my own through trial and error.  The good part is thhat its  really close to my house – it takes me 15 minutes if I leave before 9 am and 40 minutes after 9 am. And I have Saturdays off 🙂

The one thing which I really do miss here (besides not going to Court) and which kept me going in my previous firm was my friends there. I made some very close friends there and we’d cover up for each other. I don’t see that happening here. My new colleagues are fun, but I miss my old friends – our horsing around, arguing a point of law at the top of our voices, rushing off to the library to gossip, the eating & hogging, the impromptu visits to Morrisson, going to Lajpat & Khan Market during lunch. I hope to make some friends here soon. I already made a few of them come with me to Nirulas one of these days for ice cream. And I am trying to convince everyone to wear a sari one of the days next week because I ma going to be very depressed since I am not going to Cal this time for Pujo. I am super depressed because of that.

Its Raining!!! Its Raining!!!

with 10 comments

Heylooo my lovely peoples…I am now back in saddi Dilli (more like rainy Dilli these days). I am pretty thankful that I don’t need to brave the rains and the traffic for sometime.

I got home a couple of days back to a dusty house. And 3 days of both of us being home means it  gets messy all over again. Oh and did I mention that I got home and 2 days later…Wham. I have a cold, sinus, bodyache & fever. I was pretty much sleeping all day yesterday. I decided to venture out to run a couple of errands & pick up a couple of non-white formal (all my office wear is either black or white or black b& white. For colour I have grey & beige) shirts, but the rain made me turn back home. I didn’t want to risk gettting wet in the rain and getting even more unwell.

Wahhhh!!! I miss home. Getting back was a bittersweet feeling – on one hand I was happy to be home again and meeting the Hujband after 26 days; and on the other I was already missing home – my Cal home. Oh and I made good use of my sabbatical – one of my stories is going to be published in Chicken Soup for the Indian Friend’s Soul. And now I shall go indulge one of my longtime dreams – to be home on a rainy day & enjoy some pakoras & coffee & a good book & movie (Yup I do it all together – I am a Gemini after all). I read the book when the movie drags or gets boring you see. Aaachoooo!!! Okay I sooo000 need my hot coffee. And all of you slaving away I shall remember you all while doing so.

PS: Hujband just called. He decided to return home because of the crazy traffic & picked up a bucket from KFC. Pakoras adjourned. List tomorrow for same purpose 😛

Sabbatical Update

with 4 comments

Heylooo my precious….how are you all today?

I am having a good time here in Cal. Swimming regularly every morning (I swear my tummy has decreased by 0.02 mm) or my hogging would have made me put on another 10kgs by now at the rate I am eating. I have been catching up with old friends whom I usually don’t get to meet because of paucity of time (that’s a favourite phrase for litigators btw); hogging (have I mentioned that?) and spending time with the parents. I went for a loud & long dinner last night with friends where a bong friend tells his Bihari colleague “Aabhi tu rakh. Baad mein laagaata hoon” (Can someone translate that in English suitably please :P) and an entire table of 9 people just couldn’t stop laughing. And the poor fellow couldn’t understand what was so funny 😛

I went for “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai” today. Ajay was good, Emran was brash, Kangana & Prachi looked pretty. The first half was more of a love story while the second half was too abrupt. My advise – wait for it to come on the tv.

Sabbatical: Day 3/ Mommy’s Birthday

with 5 comments

Day 3 of my sabbatical began with a call from an ex-colleague with whom I haven’t really been in touch since I moved to Delhi barring the random FB comments & likes. She was calling to find out about the collague’s husband who has been admitted to hospital. He may have to go in for a surgery tomorrow. Please pary for them.

I also had a few calls from office.

Today is my mother’s birthday and I celebrated it with my parents after ten years. I left for college in 2001 and college would be on in full swing by July end.  Thereafter, I got busy with work. This was the main reason why I came to Calcutta on 27th and will not meet the Hujband for 26 days. he left for his tour on 21st and I left for Cal on 27th. he gets back on 29th and will be in town for 4-5 days before touring again and we will meet only on 16th when we both return home. This is the longest time that we have stayed apart since we got married. Anyway, I chilled the entire morning and afternoon, then went and got the cake. The good thing about Calcutta is the abundance and variety of public transportation available which means I don’t need to take to get the car out everytime; unlike Gurgaon where there is practically no public transportation. I picked up a chocolate truffle from Kookie Jar which we cut when my mom returned home from work. I took her out for dinner later in the evening to Mocambo where I had a fish steak and Ma had a chicken sizzler. I quite like the ambience and it gives stiff competition to Peter Cat. Noone can beat Peter Cat’s chelo kebabs though and I shall now be forced to say that the fish steak at Mocambo rocks as well. that wraps up my day today.

Over and out for now. Tomorrow shall be a new day.

Sabbatical: Days 1 & 2

with 2 comments

Well since I am now officially vella (Finally…Yipppeee!!!), I’m going to try and get back to blogging more regularly.

All said and done though, I am going to miss my workplace and the people there. I had a weeklong farewell and my boss is still telling me to come back. My last day at work began with these awesome dhoklas made by one of my colleagues for breakfast, a conference which made me late for my own farewell lunch and a nice gooeeey chocolatey cake.

Now begins my sabbatical.

Day 1 was spent…guess where? AT WORK. Yup you read that right at work. Bossman asked me to attend one final matter in the Supreme Court where we got a favourable order and I left with a bang. I was wrapping up stuff & one of my ex-clients saw me in the office and insisted that I attend  a conference at 4 pm that day which dragged on till 6 pm; and I finally left office at around 7 pm. Day 1 however ended on a sad note when a friend/ colleague called to tell me that her husband (they were both my batchmates) had been admitted to hospital with a ruptured lung.

Day 2 began with me going to the hospital first thing in the morning to meet my friends. I took breakfast for her and chocolates for him (he’s a chocoholic like me). Treatment has begun and touchwood, he’s responding well to it. A ruptured lung is usually caused by an injury to the ribcage or by lifting something very heavy. However, in his case the doctors say its quite common in men between the age of 25 – 40 having a tall & lean body structure. I went to the airport from the hospital and flew to cal. Flight was delayed by about half an hour and by the time I reached home around 5 pm all I wanted was to eat something. Once the pet pooja was done, I had to take my mommy shopping because its her birthday tomorrow. I also checked out Padatik to see if they would be starting with any workshops soon. Nothing happening on that front now though. Ordered Mommy’s cake and bought her a pretty suit piece as happy budday gift.

That’s it for now…shall keep you guys posted on my sabbatical. Please pray that someone needs a lawyer soon 😉

Welcome To My New Abode

with 13 comments

Hellooo peoples…Welcome to my new abode. Since parts of the site are still under construction, kindly adjust.

As you all now see, I have now switched alliance from Blogger to WordPress. Still getting the hang of it (While we’r at it, can someone please tell me how to incerase font size in my posts and also that of the links on my blogroll; and also how to bring the links for the multiple Pages on top from its existing place on the right side?)

By the way, a Subha Bijoya to all you. I had a wonderful trip to Cal this time – little shopping, lots of pandal hopping, lots of adda, quality time with the folks, major hogging, little sari wearing (saris and me are not conducive to pandal hopping), loads of mishti, the joy of knowing that I didn’t have to go to work for a whole week was simply bliss. (Details on another post)

Returned on Tuesday morning to work – lots of changes happening around here, including various administrative policies. (We’r most worried about the change in the leave policy – thank God I took a week off now). Let’s see what happens. We’r keeping our fingers crossed cuz it sure promises to be a bumpy ride.

Slaving away earning my remuneration

with 4 comments

Waaaaaah…I had written this whole post about losers who like to dose out sarcastic comments to others, but when its their turn to take it they turn around and say “Hey, no need to get personal”. There was some glitch when I hit the ‘Publish’ button and my post seems to have disappeared.

Anyway 7:45 on a Saturday evening and yours truly is still slaving in office and making a poor intern slave away too (well they got to earn their 5k don’t they by sacrificing at least one Saturday evening). Hey I’m not a slave driver but deadlines are deadlines. I am not too happy about the fact that I have sacrificed my Saturday as well as my Sunday. Arjun’s in Calcutta (he had the hugest prawns ever last night made for him by his sasuma, aka my mom). My mom’s delighted. I was in Cal last weekend and this weekend Arjun is in Cal. Oh well….I’l go get some TLC from the in-laws 🙂

100th Post

with 17 comments

Woohooo people…I’v completed a century (and a little more than a year as well) 😛

Anyway lot o tell. We had a super-amazing Holi party. We got all dirtied up and had loads of fun. You can see the photos here. We played only with herbal colours and lots of water. Surprisingly it took only 20 minutes under the shower to clean up – no rashes, no breakouts nothing. I did end up with fever and a sore throat though on Wednesday evening, which resulted in my being on an enforced maun vrat on Thursday in office. I played dumb charades all day and sent a lot of mails to my colleagues since I couldn’t shout across the cubicles and ask them as we usually do. They thought it was awfully funny.

Anyway left early Friday morning for Calcutta. Saw Vivek Oberoi at the aiport dressed in a chappri (sidey/ roadside – don’t know how to translate it) pink tee and maaroing loads of attitude. sadly for him, nooone daaloed him any ghaas and as an old gentleman behind me commented “Who is that bugger? Does he have ants up his pants?”. Mr. Oberoi was accompanied by a bunch of wannabes who thought they had something over the rest of us plebeians since Vivek Oberoi condescended to chat with them. However, thanks to my cold, I ended up with terrible earache on the flight and my right ear being blocked for the rest of the day, which resulted in my hearing only from the left ear (Nope not funny people – its weird to yawn and hear some sound like paper crinkling in your ear which is apparently the tissues moving around).

Anyway took mom shopping, bought her a pair of jeans and a couple of tops. Picked up a couple of tops for myself as well. It’s really funny when you have the heppest mall 5 minutes away from home, hence we end up going there on evening walks dressed in old tees and shorts and seeing the rest of the crowd all dressed up to their nines. Onetime, a bunch of friends all sweaty after a basketball match landed up for a coffee only to meet a friend’s future boss and him turning the opposite direction and running off.

We went to New Market the next day where I picked up some black and whites for myself and hunted for some decent shoes. I’m wondering why these shoe brands like Inc 5, Metro, woodland etc. don’t make some decent office sandals which don’t have stupid bows and ribbons, impossible heels and hard soles. I fail to understand why can’t we have smart and comfy office wear? I generally end up buying Catwalk for office wear though I was a big Inc 5 fan earlier. And yes I’m bored of peep-toes now. Let’ have some new designs please. Met a couple of old school friends for lunch which was really fun. There was a time we’d discuss what subjects to take and which fest to go for and how much to roll up the skirt above the knee which our Ghoomti Aatma (Vice principle so named cuz she’d invariable show up with her head popping in through this huge window which had been all covered up with bags  whenever we were up to no good) would not notice. Now we were discussing married life 2nd anniversary celebrations, work, office politics, scholarships, old friends and who got married, kids and when to have them etc etc etc.

Sunday I met another close friend for coffee and then surprised an aunt by dropping by at her place for half an hour and made my poor cousin come out of the loo without taking a bath since I was in a hurry. That evening I also conned my dad into buying me this sexy outfit which I had seen and coveted 😛

Monday morning (i.e. today) saw me headed back and landing with pain in left ear and little hearing in my left ear for the day.

I need to go see a doc 😦
