I’m in Kolkataaaa!!! Home sweet home.

Lots of plans, lots of good food food, lots of adda with friends – some old and some new. An opportunity for the saris to be worn. The dhaakis and the shaaj all over. Seeing Pyramids in the morning and Hogwarts in the evening.  Cal just wears a totally different look at this time of the year. Though we may all be working in different cities, we all make it a point to come home at this time of the year – to be with friends and family, to just be home and celebrate the joy of being together as family, as friends. And that’s how I look at festivals – a time of joy and enjoyment, a break from the regular bhag-daud and a time to catch up. Sometimes, we do need an excuse to force us all to do that.

You guys have a great Pujo  😀

#BlogoholicsUtd – Post 2

Come the beginning of the year and we all look forward the holiday list of our respective offices. We know we will get 10-15 scheduled holidays of which 3 are guaranteed – 26th January (Republic Day), 15th August (Independence Day) and 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti).

Yes, for  most of us today, the only significance that 2nd October is that its a holiday. And a dry day. Many of the tv channels would earlier show Gandhi or Lage Raho Munabhai, but now they don’t even do that. For kids these days, Gandhiji is just another freedom fighter. They may read about his life, his rise to fame and power from a lawyer to Bapu, they may write essays about him, his teachings and his non-violence movement. Anna Hazare probably showed the kids of today (including you and me) how Gandhiji’s teachings can bring the government to its knees even today. Its a separate issue that I didn’t agree with the Lokpal Bill and got into lots of arguments with people for that or that the methods adopted by Team Anna were not correct in my opinion, but the fact is that he did bring the government to its knees and I respect him for that. Alot of our politicans wear the gandhi topi and khadi so voters can identify them with Gandhiji, but Anna is the only one who actually used his principles.

What’s your two bits on this?

October is the #Blogaholic Month – Day 1

with 14 comments

When I was in school, I used to write quite a bit – short stories, poems, plays, scripts (and I could talk your head off as well). I loved to read and my parents encouraged me to read as well. When I got to college, I maintained a journal intermittently. When I started working, I had no time for anything and my creative outlet fell by the wayside. When I moved to saddi Dilli after shaadi, the Hujband encouraged me to blog and I started one blog, abandoned that and started another. Then I moved to wordpress. Blogging continued on and off. Earlier this year I did the Blogging Challenge in May – where I took up the challenge to blog everyday. After the month of May, I didn’t blog much, which is when I thought of taking up another challenge. Meghna and me started chatting about it on twitter  and Purvesh joined us. The group expanded as we brought in Monika, Tanu, Shweta, Nikhil and Anirudh.

Wish us luck folks. I am off to cal on Monday evening for Durga Pujo, so next few posts will be definitely about Cal and Pujo 😀
