#BlogoholicsUtd – Post 2
Come the beginning of the year and we all look forward the holiday list of our respective offices. We know we will get 10-15 scheduled holidays of which 3 are guaranteed – 26th January (Republic Day), 15th August (Independence Day) and 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti).
Yes, for most of us today, the only significance that 2nd October is that its a holiday. And a dry day. Many of the tv channels would earlier show Gandhi or Lage Raho Munabhai, but now they don’t even do that. For kids these days, Gandhiji is just another freedom fighter. They may read about his life, his rise to fame and power from a lawyer to Bapu, they may write essays about him, his teachings and his non-violence movement. Anna Hazare probably showed the kids of today (including you and me) how Gandhiji’s teachings can bring the government to its knees even today. Its a separate issue that I didn’t agree with the Lokpal Bill and got into lots of arguments with people for that or that the methods adopted by Team Anna were not correct in my opinion, but the fact is that he did bring the government to its knees and I respect him for that. Alot of our politicans wear the gandhi topi and khadi so voters can identify them with Gandhiji, but Anna is the only one who actually used his principles.
What’s your two bits on this?

Agree with your point of view!!! Dont agree with Anna’s Lokpal Version and I faced the same kind of music….lets see how this thing turns out!!!

I hope the way this bill was passed won’t set a precedent for the future for other groups to pressurise the government

Time gone by Gandhi’s principles may not work in modern world. But it will create good people who will try to follow to them to keep the faith alive !

if all of us just take an oath to vote, we can make a difference. trust me, thats where the problem lies, not everyone votes. Gandhiji wud get us out and voting.

I don’t know if Gandhiji could get us all voting, but yes if we all did actually vote, it would make a big difference

True…it is pretty confusing. I agree with what he says but I don’t support the methodology
